Tribology is the science of friction, wear and lubrication of objects in relative motion. To be a pure Tribologist, one must have an extensive background in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physical Metallurgy, Metallography, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering and Computer Science to name but a few. There are probably less than 500 pure Tribologists world wide with several being members of the Parsec Group. Tribology covers friction, wear and lubrication in any environment of any material from the friction of air flow over the stabilizer fins of a rocket or missile to the friction encountered in a tiny electric motor. And, it provides the expertise to determine the most effective manner and materials to minimize the effects of friction, wear and energy demands.
In contrast is the discipline of the Lubrication Engineer who is well versed in friction and wear but only in an earthbound environment and is restricted to solving such problems with conventional fluid lubricants. The lubrication engineer is usually a mechanical engineer and trained in lubrication (for the most part) by the major oil refining industry.
Our origin was NOT the petroleum industry but rather one of the harsh and unforgiving environment of deep space. An environment wherein if one miscalculates a method of overcoming friction and wear, you do not get a second chance to correct the error. In view of this vast difference in our origin and that of the lubrication engineer and the major oil refiners, what we manufacture must work the first time, every time. We must be fail safe and perfect or disaster will surely result. And, we are proud to say that for over 50 years, we have never had a product failure. Now, this technology and its formulas are available to you.
Under certain conditions, Tribology consultant services are available from
us to non-customers in which case our invoice rates are $1,000.00 US per day
plus all expenses. Contact Parsec for details and explanation of your needs.
